The Documents module enables authorized users to upload files to your site for sharing.  When files are uploaded, users can identify a title and a category that is associated with the file.  Uploaded files can be located on your site or linked from an external location.  Additionally, you will also be able to setup a RSS feed to allow users to subscribe to a file to be notified of updates.  Once a file is uploaded you will be able to view details for it such as who downloaded it and when it was last updated.

All uploaded documents will be displayed in a table that allows users to view the file information and download the file if they would like a local copy of it.  The Documents module is a great way to easily share files and keep users notified of updates.
